About Proforest and Imaflora

Proforest is a unique, non-profit group that supports companies, governments and other organisations to implement their commitments to the responsible production and sourcing of agricultural commodities and forest products. We work through a combination of programmes and consultancy services to provide the most appropriate and up-to-date support to our partners and clients.

Through our consultancy services we provide technical support for companies and other organisations to implement their commitments to responsible production and sourcing in practice. We work at all stages of the supply chain from production to manufacturing and retail.

Our programmes enable us to share our expertise with people and in places that otherwise would not be able to implement more responsible production and sourcing. We support many multistakeholder initiatives, building capacity and helping develop mechanisms to push forward the practical implementation of sustainability in agriculture and forestry. We develop tools, guidance and practices that can be adopted by producers, supply chain organisations, governments and civil society.

Brazilian NGO Imaflora (Instituto de Manejo e Certificação Florestal e Agrícola), was created in 1995 under the premise that the best way to conserve forests is to recognize their economic value, combined with responsible management of natural resources.

Imaflora works across Brazil, promoting activities that contribute to the conservation of natural resources and also to improve and maintain the quality of life of rural and forest workers, traditional communities, indigenous people, quilombola residents and farming families. Imaflora seeks to make a difference in the regions in which it works, creating land use and sustainability models that can be replicated in other municipalities, regions and biomes in the country.

Using integrated and innovative solutions, Imaflora has shown itself to be an agent for change in the forest and agribusiness sectors, showing that it is possible to:

  • Link production with conservation

  • Combine social, environmental and economic benefits

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This platform offers access to systems, tools, data and technical information for a deforestation-free beef chain focusing on the Brazilian Amazon biome. The platform brings a set of actions aimed at strengthening social and environmental commitments in the beef value chain in the Amazon and boosting their implementation.
