FIRST PHASE
The first phase was developed between 2020 – 2021 and aimed to build the foundations of the Protocol, through benchmarking of platforms, public agreements and private commitments. More details are in the document: Comparative analysis in the beef value chain: setting the bar to create the voluntary Monitoring Protocol for Cattle Suppliers in the Cerrado.
In this first phase, consultations with stakeholders occurred totalling 20 organisations including: meatpackers (4), retail companies (2), the food industry (3), civil society (3), geotechnology companies (3), and sectoral initiatives (1). The summary of these consultations can be found in the document: Summary of the consultation process about the “Voluntary Monitoring Protocol for Cattle Suppliers in the Cerrado: Version 1 for consultation – July 2021”.
Additionally, in this initial phase, a technical analysis of the potential impact of implementing the protocol on the livestock production base in the Cerrado was carried out, which can be found here.
SECOND phase
The second phase was dedicated to:
Creating the Protocol's governance structure, for the legitimacy of decision making
Testing of the first version by the slaughterhouses, to qualify the dialogue
Carrying out new consultations, including other actors and advancing the decision-making on points of disagreement
Making adjustments to the protocol
Promoting, disseminating and adopting the protocol
THIRD PHASE
The third phase will focus on:
Protocol’s communication.
Development and validation of the first version of the Audit Protocol.
Workshops to train meatpackers in the Cerrado.
Validation and implementation of the Audit Protocol.
Definition of formats for monitoring and transparency of the Protocol's implementation.
